What is Effective Altruism?
Effective Altruism (EA) is a philosophy and international social movement which uses evidence and reason to figure out how to do the most good in the world. In practice, it’s about finding the most effective ways to do good with your time, money, and career.
You can learn more about Effective Altruism on the Effective Altruism website. If you’re interested in increasing the positive impact of your career, 80,000 Hours has a great guide and provides other resources, such as career advising.
About Us
We’re a community group for anyone in Edinburgh who wants to do the most good they can. Students and non-students alike are welcome. We aim to provide space for people in Edinburgh to learn more about Effective Altruism, help people gain the skills and knowledge they need to maximise their positive impact on the world, and build a supportive and fun EA community here in Edinburgh.
What We Do
We run a range of events and programmes throughout the year:
- Socials: pub nights, walks and other fun activities to make like-minded friends.
- Discussion Groups: relaxed group discussions on EA topics, from global health to AI safety, with the reading or listening chosen by the group.
- Speaker Events: talks from people working in high-impact fields.
- 1-to-1s: chat with a committee member about anything EA, including career advice.
Upcoming Events
We post all our upcoming events on the EA Forum. Take a look and RSVP:
